Do you REALLY need a blog for your business? Technically, no. No one will force you to have a blog, but there are many benefits to having a blog on your business website.
I always recommend my clients have a blog on their website if they don’t already. I throw different reasons at them, but I’ve never formally listed them out. After thinking about it–or overthinking, like I do with everything, I have come up with FIVE reasons why your business needs a blog.
1. Helps Establish Trust / Demonstrate Leadership & Authority
When you’re selling a product or a service, chances are, you have competitors. I know there may be some people out there who are solo in their field, but even then, it wont be long before others start doing what they’re doing.
Set yourself apart from your competitors by showing that you can be trusted and that you know what you’re talking about. A blog with consistent posts that shows what your business is, what you’re about, who the employees are, and reiterates what you know and specialize in will show potential customers or clients browsing your website that if they buy your product or hire you, they’re getting the best–someone who knows their stuff and delivers what they promise.
2. Drive Traffic to Your Site Organically Using SEO and Link Building
SEO and link building are enough for their own posts–so if you know nothing about them, just keep in mind that they’re important. In a nutshell, link building is a part of SEO, and both will help your site be found in search results on the various search engines without spending a dime for the visibility.
Link building gets other sites to link back to your site. The more blog posts you have, the more opportunity there is for people to share on social media platforms or even in their own blogs.
As Moz says, “When combined with strong technical SEO foundations, great on-page SEO, excellent content, and a good user experience, link building can be super effective at driving more organic traffic.”
3. Convert Traffic to Leads by Using CTAs
Including CTAs in blog posts on your site give people more opportunity to reach out to you which gives you even more of a chance to convert them from traffic to a lead.
A CTA can be as simple as asking someone to subscribe to your blog which will grow your email list. Anytime you ask someone to “buy now,” “download now,” “learn more,” “start now,” “call us,” “email us,” etc., that is a CTA. So don’t overthink this, but definitely include one in every blog post.
4. Repurpose Content on Social Media
When you have a blog, you can recycle posts on social media to keep continuous exposure. The better your content and the more posts you have on your site, the more opportunity you have to continue attracting more and more traffic.
5. Affordable Marketing
Blogging truly is affordable marketing. Not only are you showcasing your products or services, you’re also showing brand personality, creating opportunity for interacting with your customers / clients, growing your audience, and more!
Practice What You Preach
A blog really shows that not only you know what you’re doing, but it also shows you practice what you preach. This is a reminder for myself as well. I ensure my clients have regular posted blogs, consistent social media posts, email marketing, and more. . .that I don’t do for myself, and I should!
Even if you’re not in the digital marketing space, you can use your blog posts to feature happy customers or clients, recent jobs, or your portfolio. Use blogs to your advantage.
